TIME PERCEPTION
A metaphor. Think of a boiled egg. To get it soft-boiled, one needs a
clock. But if the egg comes out hard-boiled, then the clock must have been too
slow. So, the state of the egg (just like the state of a neural network) could be
used as a measure of the clock. Which measure is more reliable is an empirical
issue. One possibility is that we alternate between the two. Another is that we
take some weighted mean, ut other possibilities
exist. Projected research will assess the existence of such multiple time
readouts and will explore their putative interactions using a combination of
psychophysical, neuroimaging and modeling techniques.
